Senior Care Washington

Studies indicate that the state of Washington is home to over 4 million of America’s 35.9 million seniors.  And when many are planning their Washington senior care needs, some may plan how and where they age largely based on the combination of solutions that offer independence and that also support their faith.

Research shows that 89 percent of seniors say the ability to live independently and remain in their own home is very important, but more than half are concerned about their ability to do so.  Additional research shows that 75 percent of elders indicate that faith is the most important aspect of their lives.

Senior Continuing Care

Lately, many people have been discussing continuing care for seniors.  Often times, this concept takes the form of a Senior Continuing Care Retirement Community (CCRC), and is a fairly recent concept in the retirement living industry.

As the concept of ‘aging in place’ became the mantra for many seniors in the 90’s, many owners of retirement centers and nursing homes took notice. Especially throughout the southeastern part of the United States CCRC Retirement campuses sprung up. Independent, healthy and active retired individuals found housing in Senior Apartments or Condominiums with the option of aging in place.

Home Exterior Repair For Seniors

When considering exterior home repair for seniors, whether you’re helping the folks or still able to do it yourself, you want to know if it makes sense economically, functionally, and esthetically.  These are the exterior home repairs that we think make the most sense for seniors:

  • Caulk all your doors and windows regularly to stop air leakage.  Windows – If you have single pane glass windows with old fashioned storm windows on the outside consider changing the window sash to an insulated glass sash. You do not rip out the old frames saving the cost of exterior or interior modifications. The windows will be more energy efficient and look better and this modernizes your home.

Dementia Care Homes

In the US, an estimated 75 percent of people living in care homes have some level of dementia – and these figures are rising.  But according to government reports, not all residents in dementia care homes are currently receiving the most appropriate care for their individual needs. Worst instances include poorly trained staff regularly administering sedatives and anti-psychotic drugs to calm individuals exhibiting the types of “disruptive” behavior associated with the various forms of dementia; more common examples are linked to sheer ignorance and lack of experience among staff caring for people with dementia.

These vary in availability according to age and other factors, and benefit formulations can be quite complex, so it is recommended that you or an interested senior do further research on one of the below programs if they feel it may meet their needs.

Social Security Old Age Pensions

This is the oldest social welfare program in the United States, begun back in the 1930s by Franklin Delano Roosevelt. Unlike some programs, you must have paid into it in order to be eligible for benefits. The current requirement, which has been in effect for many years, is that you have 40 quarters of work on your record.
