Geriatric Nursing

With the process of aging, individuals can expect to begin to see a decline in health. As we age, our immune system becomes weaker and our natural healing abilities begin to decrease. Thankfully, there are individuals who specialize in caring for ill individuals of a certain age. These individuals are geriatric nurses.

Geriatric nurses are responsible for providing elder individuals with home health care, in terms of medicine, physical rehabilitation, and injections. Because of the severity of the services performed, an education and training in nursing is mandatory. Through this education, geriatric nurses gain knowledge in medicine distribution, physical and mental health, and even coping skills for families of seniors. It is important for geriatric nurses to be well rounded in all areas of elder care in order to provide the best assistance possible.

Certified Senior Advisor

When younger generations are faced with the responsibilities of caring for their elderly family members, issues may arise from lack of knowledge and/or lack of preparation. This is by no means the fault of anyone involved. Though many family members or friends begin with the intentions of helping their senior family member, the reality and weight of the responsibilities soon set in. This is why there are programs which assist in the caring and education of seniors.

Among those programs are the Society of Certified Senior Advisors (SCSA) and the Certified Senior Advisor (CSA) program.

Geriatric Care Nursing Home

A geriatric care nursing home is equipped to deal with the elderly as well as the sick. Their focus is narrower, thus their expertise is richer. If you have an elderly family member who is ready to move somewhere where they can get targeted help to improve their quality of life, then a geriatric care nursing home specializing in the needs of elderly seniors should top your list.

Doesn’t the phrase nursing home imply that is it for the elderly? You might be asking. Well, not exactly. Nursing homes are for anyone who needs skilled nursing care, such as people who are recovering from accidents, surgeries, and serious illnesses. This does not necessarily mean they are elderly. What the phrase ‘nursing home’ suggests is a particular level of care.
