Homecare Agency

When making the decision of obtaining assisted living for an elderly individual, there are many different choices in which this assistance can be acquired. Some of these facilities are nursing homes, in home care, hospices, and assisted living facilities. Because there are so many different venues which offer the support and assistance needed to maintain a healthy, independent lifestyle seniors desire, it is sometimes important to seek outside assistance in making a final decision.

San Diego Caregivers

Before you make a phone call to one of the many San Diego caregivers, decide what home-care skills your elder requires and what specific tasks have to be performed.  Write the required skills and tasks down.  You can use this to then clearly communicate your aging senior’s specific needs to a caregiver.

For example, you may want someone skilled in managing the difficult behavior of a confused older adult or providing range-of-motion exercises to a stroke victim, or managing incontinence.  Tasks may include lifting, bathing, or even driving to medical appointments.

NJ Elder Care

NJ Elder care is a very imprecise term when you’re living in New Jersey and trying to specifically find what you need.  The term ‘elder care’ can encompass a wide variety of useful services and products, and the more you know about what is available, the sooner you’ll be able to find the care you need.

Hospice and Medicare Services

Seniors who suffer from an illness, a life-threatening disease or those who are nearing the end of their life may need Hospice services. Hospice can help seniors and their loved ones transition into their final stages of their life. Sometimes hospice patients have a few weeks before their life ends, and in those final weeks of life Hospice provides comfort for both the patient and their loved ones.

Senior Caregiver Responsibilities

Doctors, caregivers, and the person receiving care all have one thing in common: they see each other quite often. When a caregiver is caring for a loved one, it is necessary to take the senior to see their doctor for many reasons. As we age, we require more medical assistance due to illnesses, diseases, or common check-ups. It is often the caregiver’s responsibility to take their loved one to see a physician. If your loved one is receiving home healthcare or homecare, it is a good idea for the caregiver to be present as often as possible during physician visits. Sometimes, it may be necessary for the senior caregiver to take their loved one to see a specialist with the proper training and skills to assess certain illnesses or serious conditions.

Connecting with Caregivers

Connecting with senior caregivers can help you when you are stressed, need to talk with someone, or may need guidance as you care for an aging loved one. Many groups are available for caregivers, and each state has an Area Agency for Aging that a caregiver can use as a resource. If your loved one has a disease or illness, you may need to find a support group to help you. Some caregivers will find it hard to accept the changes happening in their life, and some may need a friend. This is common for caregivers as many do not understand a lot about the disease, why they are an essential part of their loved one’s journey, and the resources they need during this difficult time. Often, seniors and aging adults may experience an illness or disease and this will affect the entire family. If your loved one is suffering from heart disease, you are not alone. Nearly 80 million adults suffer from a cardiovascular disease each year in the United States.

Emotional Caregiving

When caring for someone you love, it is best to keep your anger at a minimum. Often, we find that anger can prevail when we are caring for someone we love, especially someone with a difficult disease, stroke survivor, or an Alzheimer’s disease sufferer. Caregiving can be a very big challenge, but you must work to be as gentle as possible, even in the most stressful of times.

Traveling with a Senior

Traveling is difficult whether near or far, young or old, especially if you are flying during your travels. Many people rely on summer vacations with family as their primary vacation, and if you are a caregiver you will most likely need to take your loved one with you on the vacation. Many seniors enjoy traveling with young grandchildren. Group tours can be exciting for aging adults as it is something that is social, relaxing, and refreshing. Some cruise lines may offer deals to seniors and to certain church groups, and many aging adults take advantage of these cruises. Bus lines may also offer specialized pricing on exciting trips. The airlines and trains will offer seasonal discounts, or special discounts, to aging adults. Some trains offer cross-country tours which seniors may thoroughly enjoy in their spare time. Traveling sounds fun and exciting, and there are a few things a caregiver, or senior, should know before they travel.
