Stop and Smell the Roses – now at your local San Jose assisted living location

assisted living facilities San JoseMany assisted living facilities in San Jose are changing things up a bit.  Seniors have so much time that they once may have never imagined having and for this reason it becomes difficult to imagine a day without busy tasks and chores and time to just stop and smell the roses.  The interior of a senior assisted living facility is important when choosing between the options available in San Jose, but just as important is the landscaping and activities available for seniors.  Some assisted living facilities are now offering beautiful gardens and flowers and much of the beauty may even come from the seniors themselves participating in the care of the garden.

Elder Abuse in San Francisco

Unfortunately, as in many cities, elder abuse in San Francisco is still happening.  Psychological abuse is one of four types of elder abuse that unfortunately exist in this country and in places like San Francisco. Seniors should be protected, cherished and respected, but sometimes that is not the case.  Psychological abuse is one of the hardest forms of abuse to identify.  Physical abuse or financial abuse will leave “a mark”/ evidence that the abuse is taking place.  There is a bruise or injury with physical abuse making it identifiable.  Financial abuse will leave a paper trail and evidence in financial records.  Psychological abuse can be difficult to identify.

Senior Conversation Starter Tips

Retirement HoustonStarting an uncomfortable conversation can be absolutely no fun.  It is not easy to ask hard questions.  In Los Angeles there are people who can be trusted and people who may not be so trustworthy.  As our parents age and there are other people in the family, friends and those we hire to assist to care for our senior aged loved ones, we must protect them as they once protected us.  It is important to reciprocate the loving care that our parents gave to us when we were vulnerable and in a position that someone needed to look after and out for us.  For this reason, it is equally important to start conversations which may be difficult.  The best way to prevent financial abuse with a senior aged loved one is to contact an attorney, financial advisor and accountant to get the finances in order.  When your senior aged loved one gets to the age that you feel like they could be in the position to fall victim to financial abuse it is the time to start those conversations.  Senior conversation starter tips:

Walk in bath tubsThe smallest changes can make the most improvement in a senior’s quality of life. Families of seniors are not taking any chances and are doing what they can to ensure their seniors are safe and happy.  As a younger person we take for granted how easily we can get into the tub to take a shower. Just lift our leg up over the side, find our balance in the tub with just one foot in and push off with the other leg to end up both feet and our bodies in the tub.  Well it is not as simple as it sounds for a senior with mobility and balance issues.  Seniors are often not as flexible, stable or physically able to perform many of the simplest tasks that we might not consider as a younger person.  Signs your senior is having difficulty getting into and out of the tub:
